Retail store John Lewis has selected size 12 model Lauren Moller from South Africa to endorse this summer's swimwear collection. Majority of swimwear sold by the store falls in size 12 or bigger categories.
Company stores and various magazines will feature Moller's new swimwear photographs. John Lewis outlets still use size 10 dummies.
Modeling agencies in contact with John Lewis regard size 12 as plus size. UK outlets and fashion designers have different figures for clothing sizes.
At the recently concluded London Fashion Week (LFW), organizers refused to ban models with BMI lesser than 18. Designers were requested by British Fashion Council to use healthy models above 16.
Designers preference for models with waist size of 22 inches is worrying health experts as this is the average size of an eight year old girl.
