It was historic presence at Milan, yesterday, as two of the world's biggest fashion chains, Burberry and Pringle, looked to majestic eras for inspiration.

Christopher Bailey for Burberry dressed his models in tunics, padded jackets with parkas or prominent belts and large gauntlets that reminded of the medieval ages and also funky rock-stars.

Leather broad belts, big buttons and extra-tall boots were chief features of the collections, mainly in black. Army-style trench coats for men offered a rock-solid military feel.

Pringle collection included silky satin dresses in metallics were topped with cable knits collars or yokes, with elbow lacey or rib-knit sleeves.
