Jewellery exports from India rise 4%

Exports of Jewellery exports from India rose 4 percent in ten months ended January as overseas demand for shipments of gold ornaments surged.

Jewellery exports reached $13.5 billion, compared to $13 billion a year earlier, the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council informed on Wednesday.

Gold jewelry exports rose 37 percent to $4.3 billion from $3.14 billion, gemstone sales climbed 4 percent to $203 million, with sale of diamond falling 9 percent to $8.8 billion, it said on Wednesday.

A joint report by council and KPMG India informs that India's share in diamond processing industry is likely to slide from 57percent to 49 percent with China reported to capture 21.3 percent of the market by 2015.
