Sepia by Priyadarshini Rao which was launched in collaboration with Texport Syndicate in 2006 made its maiden appearance on the ramp at Lakme Fashion Week.

Bearing the inimitable stamp of Priyadarshini the label presented a collection reminiscent of the vintage years in muted tones but with touches of contemporary styling that took it on a more edgy fashion level.

Here was a line of garments that could move effortlessly from day to evening wear, made from soft fluid silks and georgettes with detailing that was tonal yet interesting as satin stripes, water colour prints, burnouts, habutai silks were teamed with denims and jersey.

The detailing techniques like appliqués, satin tapes and shredding were several - often overlapping on to one garment at the neckline or accentuating the waist.

The muted colours starting with sand, reed yellow, aqua, teal, pale brown and charcoal blended admirably with the silhouettes which ranged from the smock to the baby doll, gilets, skirts, blouses, cuffed Bermudas, frocks, and separates that were layered in dual or triple forms.

A pleated, rouched horizontal panelled skirt, a ruffled frill deep U neck pinafore, Dongri Bermudas, a broderie anglaise khaki skirt, cuffed dhoti Capris, an asymmetrical bubble dress a small peplum blouse - the coordinate list was endless.

The designer presented a sprinkling of men's shirts and trousers, the former with pin tucks or frayed detailing.

Priyadarshini Rao knows her market well and the needs of her buyers, so it is little wonder that her label Sepia is already a hit in the short time that it has been in the store.
