It was the film Omkara that set the creative juices of Swapnil Shinde flowing last season. Now it is the Abduction of Psyche by William Bougeureau that has pushed his stylish imagination to come up with a collection that was feminine, yet classic with just the right amount of embellished touches.
Giving a trademark detailing for his dresses - elongated sides of skirts, Swapnil worked with diverse fabrics that ranged from chiffon, shimmering georgette, and satin Lycra, brocade, cotton, linen as well as suede which was used for jackets as well as trims for the dresses.
The colours were romantic, so evocative of the theme that he had chosen. Passionate purples, striking black, delicate ivory, tender turquoise, intoxicating champagne pretty peach and of course flame red added to the style and silhouette of the draped garments.
Starting with an elegant black embroidered dress with a lilac pleated front panel with tiny piping, he continued the asymmetric hem story with a scalloped version then had a black net over black and white print dress, moved to a suede jacket with an embroidered back panel and finally moved to more formal evening wear.
A draped black satin mini with looped long back trial, a flame red satin draped mini with an asymmetric hemline, added a white pre-stitched sari gown with seductive high slits and ended the show with long gowns with web detailing in sheer fabrics lined with flesh tones. The back leather lacing on the gownsgave a vintage look to them.
Swapnil Shinde's blend of the classic and the contemporary for his creations will give a modernized line to his buyers.
