The Spring sale of Important Watches organised by Sotheby's Geneva will take place in the Beau Rivage Hotel on Tuesday May 15th at 10h00. Ronny Wooter, Head of Watches, Sotheby's Geneva, and his team have put together a sale which should satisfy a large number of collectors and watches connoisseurs of fine quality.
Once again, the greatest watch makers such as Breguet, Patek Philippe, Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin, Jaeger-LeCoultre, IWC and Francois Paul Journe will be included in the sale. A public exhibition will take place in Geneva from Saturday 12 until Monday May 14th 2007.
Vintage wristwatches: One of the highlights of the sale is an important and possibly unique white gold Breguet perpetual calendar wristwatch with moon-phases made in 1935. Sold by the family of the original owner, the watch is in wonderful condition with a fine engine turned dial and, for the 1930s, a very unusual retrograde date sector.
Vintage perpetual calendar wristwatches by Breguet are tremendously rare, only one other has so far appeared at auction – that example featured a tonneau form case and did not have retrograde date.
Other highlights include a stunning split seconds chronograph wristwatch by Patek Philippe, retailed by Tiffany & Co in 1969, A further highlight is a highly unusual and very rare black dialled Patek Philippe military style wristwatch dating to 1947.
In stainless steel with centre seconds, it should also attract a great deal of interest amongst collectors. Worth mentioning is that vintage stainless steel Patek Philippe wristwatches with black dials are tremendously rare and that the example included in the sale appears for the first time at auction.
