India Inspires was the theme of designers Shyamal and Bhumika as they combined the grandeur of regal India with the splendour of 2020 for Spring/Summer 2008 at Lakme Fashion Week.

Drawing inspiration from the era of royalty, the garments were a mix of the east and west as dresses, skirts and sharply cut blouses and jackets gradually moved to the ethnic section and presented the luxurious lehengas and cholies with stunning dupattas.

The fabrics were a rainbow of the best that India has to offer with silks, velvets, crepes, georgettes satins, zari brocades and embellished pure silks were crafted into baby doll dresses, empire line tunics, panelled kurtas - all dazzling with metal sequins on collars, cuffs, hemlines and bodice.

The riot of colours added to the beauty of the regal ensembles which recreated the glory of Indian royalty during the Raj. Blue, beetroot purple, magenta, deep lake, red, orange, emerald green, plum, ultramarine green, chocolate, black and rani pink were lavished with the most exquisite embroidery ranging from marodi to aari, zardozi, gotta work, fine appliqués, multi hued piping, beadwork and tasseled drawstrings.

The bridal collection of lehengas and cholis, the long line angarkhas, the lavishly embroidered kurtas unfurled a story of days of grandeur.

Adding to the brilliance of the garments was the Nizam collection from D'damas Jewellery which matched the inspiration of the garments perfectly.

Shyamal and Bhumika took the audience on a sensational trip back to the future with a recreation of royal attire.
