Simon Lock, IMG Head, Asia Pacific, hosted the very interactive seminar on Business of Color at Lakme Fashion Week and introduced the speakers for the day.
Tod Schulman, Vice President, PANTONE Fashion and Home was the primary speaker who gave an informative presentation on the subject of Business of Color.
With his 25 years experience in the business of men's and women clothing, Schulman's knowledge of color and its importance was the highlight of the seminar.
Schulman informed that colour generates trends and he was very aware that colour is very important, but one must learn how it drives fashion.
“India has an affinity to colour but you must learn to appreciate it,” he advised. He informed that colour helps in the development of products and life itself. “Imagine living in a black and white world?” he queried.
He also stated, “Colour is the essential ingredient that helps to captivate our interest as it has this magical mystical quality. Colour is evident in food nature, flowers, products, clothes and it surrounds us at home.”
He added that colour cycles are faster in the 21st century with more seasons. In many cases Schulman said that colour was used to define brands like in the case of Tiffany's famous blue box with the white ribbon or soaps and home care products and colour was also used for the success of brands and life itself.
Colours also have their own definitions and personalities which help people psychologically when they are used. “After 9/11 red, white and blue were the most popular colours because of the patriotic appeal they generated.”
Sam S Shalgaonkar from NID shared the institute's research on the search of Indian colour sensibilities with a thought provoking presentation.
An interesting panel discussion followed with Michael Foley, Director, Chief Creative Officer- Foley designs, designers Narendra Kumar and Wendell Rodricks who give their views on the subject of colour.
