Arjun Saluja with his Rishta label presented the most unusually titled collection for Spring/Summer 2008 called Bu-shirt Meets Dhoti at the Lakme Fashion Week and the result was a collection of garments that defied the concept of drape and construction as fabrics were moulded, gathered, rouched and tucked to give birth to an amazing line of men's and women's wear.

The drapes of the traditional dhoti were experimented with for blouses and trousers giving a new direction to the ensembles.

The print story was limited with some op-art, cobble stone and graphic patterns. The colours too were not vast in their selection as black, red, rust, acid green, lemon in cottons and satin finishes were used for the most unusually crafted garments.

Cuffed capris, draped dolman sleeve balloon tunics, dhoti skirts for drop waist dresses, lean tubes for hipster sarong dresses, horizontal gathered sleeves, jumpsuits rouched at angles were the start of an unconventional construction story.

The unusual footwear – white stockings worn over white wedge heels and the nun like Tudor white head gear gave the collection a futuristic yet very practical look.

Trousers received some bold touches as cowls rolled out from the sides for churi pants and red bias pleated cuffed harm trousers got a new style treatment.

Arjun Saluja believes in pushing the envelope to the most distant extremes, and this time he proved that his imagination can definitely have an amazing impact on the ramp.
