“The Sapling” was the name of the collection by the label Ekru Bio by Ekta Jaipuria and Ruchira Kandhari which proved that creative restrain in colours, patterns, designs and silhouettes, can bring forth one of the most beautifully finished ramp offerings.
Their collection for Spring/Summer 2008 at Lakme Fashion Week was one of the most appreciated by the audience.
Emphasizing on the environment and its beauty and using eco friendly organic cottons in earthy shades of beige, brown, rust and leaf green with just minute touches of gold, the prints were floral using azo-free dyes, pigment printing and delicate hand embroidery which included thread work, appliqué and dori with delicate trims like laces, ruffles and smocking.
The perfectly finished very well styled garments started with western silhouettes and moved to saris and kalidar kurtas with dupattas which ended the show.
The summer fresh collection included striking pieces like the grandfather yoke printed dress with layered frills and embroidered waist insert, layered dress with smocked sleeves, tiered shirt dress with embroidered belt and a muga trapeze creation with embellished yoke which were all teamed with stirupped knee high leggings worn with heel shoes.
While the western shapes faintly resembled the Austrian peasant costumes; the Indian outfits drew inspirations from the Mughal era for angarkhas and kurtas.
“The Sapling” by Ekru Bio will be one of the best offerings for the coming season for lovers of collections that respect nature.
