Soumitra Mondal presented a perfect prêt collection called “Chowraha” under his label Marg for Spring/Summer 2008 at the Lakme Fashion Week.

Khadi the beautiful fabric of freedom now gets creative touches from Soumitra who visualized a more contemporary look for this eco-friendly natural cloth.

Using different versions of khadi - like matka silk, cotton, linen in combinations with georgette, chiffon and satin; the silhouettes revolved around gathered and rouched trousers and churidar pants, tunics, kaftans, kurtas with sleeve detailing and dresses.

Soumitra had cool summer wear with simple elegant shapes. Horizontal striped matka silk kurtas and long shirts were teamed with churidars. Shifts and sheaths with delicate front tonal embroidery were in the palest of pink or ecru.

For some sporty wear, Soumitra had cuffed bloomers with striped blouses, printed summer dresses and skirts with broderie anglais at the hem.

Using drawstrings as the main detailing he highlighted the garments with it at the shoulders and sides. A few sparklers were added on for a green georgette mini with floral embroidery at the hem. Discreet shimmer with matte gold and sequins was added to the thread work.

The saris in different versions of khadi had dramatic borders to turn them into ideal occasion wear. Khadi never looked more glamorous in the new millennium as it did for the “Chowraha” collection by Soumitra Mondal.
