The conference also underscored the importance and relevance of GJF as the apex body for the domestic trade. It was agreed that GJF was the one platform from which the trade will communicate with the government, bureaucracy, trade and the consumers. All communication and interaction with media across the country will be through uniform messages (in the local languages) that will be disseminated by the local trade associations.
It was decided that using the media to reach out to consumers and the government was the best way. The media will be used to communicate that the trade is pro-hallmarking and considers quality and consumer assurance of the utmost importance.
Besides, press release given out at media meets, trade members also suggested that ads be placed in newspapers which could carry a letter from the GJF to consumer affairs ministry or any other communication the GJF deems relevant.
There were suggestions that trade publications be involved in the communication dissemination exercise as they had close relations with the jewellery trade fraternity. Another suggestion was to distribute audiovisual material to the electronic media which could then be carried on news bulletins.
There were suggestions to invoke the Right to Information act to access the final draft of the Act. The trade fraternity wishes to appraise MPs from various regions about the seriousness of the issue. This could then trigger a debate in Parliament with the MPs underscoring the governments apathy and total disregard of the jewellery trade's grievances.
