Pablo Picasso, a Spanish painter and sculptor of the 21st century was one of the founders of the cubist movement. Similar to his paintings, the Satya Paul saris in this collection depict the three dimensional forms into flat areas of pattern and color, overlapping and inter- twining so that shapes and parts are seen from the front and back at the same time.
As Picasso put it “We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize the truth, at least the truth that is given to us to understand.
Art is not the application of a canon of beauty but what the instinct and the brain can conceive beyond any canon. When we love a woman we don't start measuring her limbs.”
For Puneet the choice of both these artists lie deeper in the fact that they are both exploring 'Satya' or the aspect of truth.
One by his wit and humor pointing to the absolute reality of the painting not being the object that is painted upon it and the other by exploring the dimension of time and space within the limited medium of the two-dimensional painting.
It is truth that is the real search among artists from the beginning of time and so it is thru the medium of fashion. Puneet has played upon both of these aspects, for example, in keeping with the spirit of Magritte, designer Puneet Nanda teases us by proclaiming that the rose on the sari is not a rose!.
And towards Picasso a nod towards the creating surface textures and interesting drapes. As for Magritte, life is full of irony, or humor and Picasso a search to capture multiple facets the designer has expressed these aspects in this collection.
“It is our tribute to these great works of art by the studio's rendition of these into innovative artists work through an interplay of colors, balanced by intricate embroideries and materials.” Puneet Nanda, Designer, Satya Paul.
The collection comprises of beautiful saris, salwar-kameez sets and dresses, and is available at select Satya Paul boutiques across the country.
