For their part, the nearly 30 brands specialising in First Communion outfits and dresses that took part at the eighth edition of MADRID NOVIAS, including names such as Marla, Carmy, Smallwhite, Miquel Suay, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Barcarola and Rubio Kids, also rated the fair favourably. Specifically, the brand, Rubio Kids, expressed its sense of satisfaction: "MADRID NOVIAS constituted a unique opportunity, one that surpassed all of our expectations. For the very first time we have amortised the entire investment made at a fair. I would also like to highlight the strong professional profile of the visitors. For all of these reasons we shall certainly be taking part at the fair next year", declared Hortensia Maeso, the company's head.
MADRID NOVIAS also provided an excellent showcase for the latest trends and ideas under the heading of bridegroom attire, based on the participation of companies such as Devota & Lomba, Duyos, Miquel Suay, Javier Arnaiz and Giovanni Valdi, both at the stands presented by the exhibiting companies and at the fashion parades staged on 6th and 7th May as part of the CIBELES MADRID NOVIAS Fashion Show.
Trends for next season
The new collections presented at the eighth edition of MADRID NOVIAS indicate that organza, subtle gauze fabrics, Mikado and exquisite Spanish silk lacework are just some of the materials that will predominate for next 2011 Season, alongside silk garza, satin and sumptuous Chantilly lace. Colours will veer away from pure white, with natural shades, bone-white and beige all gaining ground. With regard to First Communion attires, natural materials such as silk, tulle and gauze will predominate, featuring half-leg lengths and three-quarter sleeves. Pleats, gathered effects, camisoles and embroidery will also feature prominently alongside straight cuts and sober lines, and with white and natural shades being the common denominators in all designs.
In Spain there are around 700 companies that specialise in wedding fashion, First Communion attire and party-wear. Catalonia brings together the largest number of wedding gown companies, whilst Madrid features the largest number of party-wear companies. As a whole, some 13,000 people work within this sector.
The wedding fashion and party-wear industry generates a turnover of around 1,300 million euros a year, of which more than one quarter corresponds to exports, especially exports of wedding gowns, ceremonial clothing and bridegroom attire . In this respect, the industry continues seeking to penetrate new markets such as Russia, Poland, the Arab nations and Latin America.
First Communion attire is gradually increasing its importance within the market as a whole, currently accounting for around 10% of overall turnover within the sector. This growth has been influenced largely by the gradual increase in the birth rate that was witnessed in Spain during the mid-1990's, which is now reflected in the large number of First Communions that have been taking place throughout the country in recent years.
The next edition of MADRID NOVIAS, together with its fashion parades at CIBELES MADRID NOVIAS, will take place between 5th and 8th May 2011 in Hall 14.1 at Feria de Madrid.
