After a week of nearly 45 runway shows, including featured designers and the Emerging Designer Competition: East competition, it's a wrap for the fifth annual Charleston Fashion Week 2011. One of 16 semifinalists, originating from 21 states, Emerging Designer Charlotte Hess captured the Emerging Designer title, the $30,000 grand prize, and People Choice's Award with her hand-made knit collection.
The Philadelphia resident and graduate of the Art Institute of Chicago and Glasgow School of Art, wowed the sold out audience - as well as the front row judge's panel with industry leaders Fern Mallis, Alexis Maybank, Janie Bryant, Anne Slowey and Derek Blasberg - with her modern 12-piece collection.
As the 2011 Emerging Designer Competition winner, the isobel and cleo senior designer, will receive a $20,000 website from F22 Designs, a runway show in Charleston Fashion Week 2012, a booth at the AmericasMart Atlanta Apparel Market 2011, $2,500 in branding materials from Vapor Apparel, a piece to be featured on Runway Passports Online Boutique, and $5,000.
The other four Emerging Designers finalists that showed their fall 2011 collections during the Saturday finale included Stephanie Mejia, Michael Wiernicki, Cody Sai Adler-McAllister, and Veritee Hill. Featured Designers for the finale included last year's Emerging Designer Competition winner Larika Page and 2010 Elle/RISD Design Award Winner David Yoo. Charleston Fashion Week's Rock The Runway Model Competition 2011 winners were Ajang Majok and Ceasar Hingletin.
Showcasing fashion designers, retailers, and models, Charleston Fashion Week has fast become one of the premier fashion weeks in North America. Held March 22-26, 2011 under the tents in Marion Square in Charleston, SC, the five-night celebration featured more than 45 runway shows, the Spring Bridal Show, Emerging Designer Competition: East, and Rock the Runway Model Competition.
