It was a splendid tribute to contemporary & classic fashion at the Wills Lifestyle Grand Finale, as the ramp came alive with Sabyasachi Mukherjee's vibrant colorful collection.
The atmosphere during the Grand Finale was one of frenzied excitement as Sabyasachi paid an ode to cultured modernism. Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Pedro Almodovar converged with the golden era of the seventies as the designer presented an eclectic collection in his true Signature style.
The Wills Lifestyle Grand Finale Autumn-Winter 2011 witnessed the ramp transform into a vintage set up reminiscent of an old British Library. Set against a backdrop of life size iconic fashion bibles, the all black wooden ramp was bedecked with flamboyant colorful bulbs.
The Grand Finale opened with a stellar performance by famous performer Kiya from London that set the stage for the rest of the evening. Accompanied by a live performance by the popular jazz band Ronnie Montrose, the models sashayed in vivid creations by the brilliant designer lending an ethereal effect that left the audiences mesmerized.
Commenting on the grand finale, Atul Chand, Divisional Chief Executive, ITC Lifestyle Retailing, said “The Wills Lifestyle Grand Finale has been setting new standards edition after edition. This time again the show was magnificent with the fabulous combination of Sabyasachi's creative energy and talent and a meticulous eye to the smallest of details. The collection was stunning and the show, yet again, was a treat for the senses.”
He further added, “Our partnership with Sabyasachi extends beyond the ramp. Grand Finale collection will be the inspiration for our Wills Signature line by Sabyasachi and will be retailed at the Wills Lifestyle stores across the country.”
Speaking on the grand finale and the collection Sabyasachi said, “This is the first time that I am showcasing at the Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week and I am excited to present my collection in Delhi after a very long time. The last time I did it was in 2005 and I am glad to be back.
“It is indeed an honor and privilege to be the Wills Lifestyle grand finale designer. It is also a wonderful opportunity to be able to retail my collection to a wider audience through Wills Lifestyle stores across India.”
The collection brought to the forefront the beauty and simplicity in a new age style, setting the parameters that define synthesis between the old and the novel. The collection traveled across Spain to Peru to Argentina with flashes of rural India. It had a schizophrenic balance of pastoral nomadity and urban intellectualism, where Voodoo dolls and tango dancers meet bohemian cowgirls and katputli princesses. Magic on the ramp was surely unveiled!
The audiences at the Wills Lifestyle Grand Finale were spell bound as they saw the ramp turn into a rich medley of colour, creativity, dramatic renditions of the world of a stunning collection true to the creative genius of the brilliant designer. It was a show that would leave a strong impression on one and all and remembered with awe. Original, innovative and a vibrant mood setter is how the Wills Lifestyle Grand Finale can be summed up as and it closed the Autumn-Winter 2011 edition of WIFW on a celebratory note.
