Self-styled specialty retailer Lila Metcalf has recently changed her boutique's name to Urban Kidz to reflect the 'user-friendly' apparel and atmosphere, from the earlier name Just Kidz with which she opened the store 18 months ago in Scottsdale.
Metcalf has graduated with a degree in communications and advertising. She has a passion for retail and her business offers kids wear at reasonable and affordable prices.
For her, business began at home featuring independent designers that offered clothing which was unique, affordable and more wearable than top tier brands. Home business success led Metcalf to open Just Kidz.
Metcalf targets children in age group of 7-14. She offers 68 lines in her 1,300-square-foot store which has five employees, who also act as personal shoppers and she ascribes the boutique's success to her stock size.
Stock for girls includes their favorite miniskirts, leggings, embellished jean jackets and denim in contemporary washes. Boys' jeans are slimmer and shirts are more fitted. They have embellished belts and jewellery as well. Gift items include headbands, jean jackets, shoes and rhinestone belts.
Boys' and girls' tees come in the range of about $32 and jeans or cargo shorts about $40.
