Primus Retail, one of the leading small format retail chains in India, representing many lifestyle brands, has made deeper inroads into the Retailing and Apparel business by recently acquiring Weekender from the Jagadish Hinduja family, the owners of Gokaldas Images.
Weekender, launched in 1988, is among the most prominent home grown brand catering to youth and children segments with a strong proposition in the market place.
Speaking on the acquisition Mr. Balaji, CEO, Primus says, “Besides expanding our Retail Network, we have been looking at inorganic opportunities and acquiring a brand like Weekender will help us in expanding our portfolio of offerings, allowing us to consolidate our position as a leader in the apparel and small format retail industry”.
Weekender has been clothing for both youth and children. In the children's category Weekender also has licensee with Disney and Warner Brothers in its portfolio.
At present Weekender has more than 50+ stores including shop in shops in all Large Department Stores with an Annual business size of Rs.45 cores. Primus plans to renovate the existing stores while adding more stores in the next 12 months.
Mr. Balaji further added that, “We are planning at creating a new look and feel for the brand. With our reach and infrastructure, we believe we will be able to grow the brand by more than 100% over the next 18 months.”
