Building on the success of its niche offering in exquisite home and garden products, The Garden Gates of Metairie, La. is officially announcing its expansion into apparel and jewelry. Just this spring, The Garden Gates launched the two divisions in its brick-and-mortar store as well as through its online shop, TheGardenGates.com. From custom-made jewelry to designer jeans and even children's wear, The Garden Gates offers apparel and accessories with its signature appeal -- a whimsical, French country meets Shabby Chic style that reflects the distinctive taste of the store's owners, Chad and Beth Harris.

"Our expansion into fashion is a natural complement to the product lines that have been sustaining our business since 1999," Beth says. "For instance, the customer who appreciates our fine French garden pots will similarly be drawn to our collection of clothes and jewelry. Just as we've carefully sought out and selected the very best in home accessories and garden decor, we've scrutinized our apparel and jewelry lines to ensure that each piece speaks to a unique audience, our core customer. The end result is that our fashion collection has become an intrinsic extension of The Garden Gates brand."

Staunch believers that The Garden Gates must carry a highly differentiated retail offering, the store's owners have spent years traveling through Europe to buy product that cultivates their boutique-style store. They've also grown the business despite major challenges, such as Hurricane Katrina. Located in a New Orleans suburb, the store not only survived the storm and a brutally wrecked economy, but it has thrived, earning recognition from such notable media outlets such as Home Accents, which profiled The Garden Gates in its June 2010 cover story.

"I've always known that The Garden Gates was worthy of limelight, but having this sort of recognition from such a widely respected trade publication as Home Accents has been extremely exciting for all of us at The Garden Gates," Chad says. "This store isn't just about what we sell but the people behind our greater mission. When seeking the finest in anything from pottery and patio furniture to lighting, home accessories and now fashion, we deliver a retail experience that's intriguing, inspirational and second-to-none."
