The Twelfth Five-Year Plan of China's textile industry will boost innovation and research and development (R&D) of carbon and other high-end fibres.

Currently, R&D and production of chemical fibres, such as carbon fibre, aramid, polyphenylene sulfide, high molecular weight polyethylene and other fibre products, are still in their infancy in China. R&D and production of most differentiated fibres remain in the level of second generation.

In the first half of 2011, the quality and technical level of Chinese industrial textile products improved, thus enhancing their international competitiveness. Hence, there is a clear trend of change in growth from quantity to quality.

According to a latest report “analysis and forecast report of China's chemical fiber industry and investment in 2010-2015", chemical fibre companies in advanced countries manufacture over 100 varieties of products. Hence, several Chinese textile enterprises have great potential for further development of their technical competency in production of high-end fibres, which would sharply increase their export capacity.
