Despite exports of Polyester staple fibres earning the country 10,833,721,193 bahts for the period January-December 2005, the overall man-made fiber sector of Thailand was affected by overcapacity output in Asia.

This caused the prices to remain subdued and even below the cost of manufacturing polyester staple fibre. Companies resorted to cutting monthly output during the year.

The figures supported this adequately as total MMF output in November reached 65,192 tons registering an 8.4 percent year-on-year decline.

Notably this also recorded the eleventh month in succession of the year-on-year decline in its production.

But a 10.7 percent drop in January to November period was registered at 741,233 tons.

Worth noting is the fact that man-made fibre sector's capacity utilization averaged 92.5 percent during 2005.
