Fibre imports touch $249.6mn

Statistics of Vietnamese General Customs Department showed that textile industry during the first half of 2006 imported 161.1 thousand tons of fibre to earn US $249.6 million, registering year–on–year rise of 23.9 percent and 24.6 percent, respectively.

Taiwan is leading fibre supplier, followed by Malaysia, Korea and China.

In June alone, imports turnover from Taiwan reached 16.9 thousand tons, worth $23.8 million, grew at 186.8 percent in volume and 202.6 percent in value compared with same month 2005.

During the period, Vietnamese enterprises imported major fibre types of polyester, synthetic, nylon, woolen and spandex fibre, of which the polyester fibre made the biggest accounts in imports revenue.

Polyester fibre accounted for 22.7 percent on entire imports revenue in June 2006, touched $11.2 million while it is $6.4 million worth of importing synthetic fibre.

Importing price of the goods in January–June period 2006 saw decline of 5.5 percent by Taiwanese and 8.4 percent of Chinese suppliers, but 5.9 percent hiking for Korean ones.
