Acting on the complaint of Ibrahim Fibres Limited, the Dewan Salman Fibre Limited and the ICI Pakistan Limited, all producers of polyester staple fiber (PSF), the National Tariff Commission(NTC) has started its 22nd inquiry into the allegation of alleged anti-dumping charges against exporters of Indonesia, Korea and Thailand.
Polyester staple fiber is exported to Pakistan at the dumped rate, which means selling lower than the normal price in Indonesia, Korea and Thailand affecting the local PSF manufacturers badly.
Local industries produce 630,600 MT of PSF annually which is used mainly in manufacturing of textile fabrics and garments.
The increasing imports have hit the local units hard. Imports which were 4473.95 MT in 2003-04 came down to 1139.27 MT in 2004-05 and it shot up to 28737.84 MT in 2005-06.
NTC has appealed the interested parties to get themselves registered to present their point of view and has also sent questionnaires to the known exporters and foreign producers requesting them to give input within 37 days.
