Knit work made from Alpaca fibres are being increasingly showcased by chic departmental stores. Alpaca is dissimilar from sheep wool as it is devoid of lanolin.
Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, Marc Jacobs and other reputed designers have turned to 100 percent alpaca and its blends because the fibre is available in 22 different natural colours like true black, brown, grey, pure white and shades of fawn. Lighter coloured alpaca is dyable.
Further, it can be merged with cashmere, sheep wool, silk, angora and mohair. Alpaca sweaters sell in the price range of $28-$395 for readymade ones and about $1,000 for hand knit ones.
Accessories like hats, scarves and mittens made from alpaca are offered in various colours matching the sweaters, which give a soft warm feel. Clint Eastwood golf sweater range for men, which resorted to 100 percent alpaca in 1999, features vivid styles.
