The total export value of Chinese hemp fibre and hemp textile products in the first half of 2007 was US $289 million, down 7.72 percent than the same period last year.
Of these, the export value of hemp products was $47.54 million, down 16.43 percent than the same period last year. The main export markets of China were America, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Taiwan.
The export quantity of hemp yarns in the first five months of 2007 was 10,900 tons, up 5.84 percent than the same period in 2006. The export unit price was $5.29 per kg, up 6.44 percent; the main export markets for hemp yarns were Italy, Korea, India, Hong Kong and Turkey.
Hemp textiles' export quantity was 98.43 million meters, down 13.78 percent than the same period last year. The export unit price was $1.86 per meter, an increase of 6.9 percent. Main export markets for hemp textiles were Hong Kong, Korea, Italy, India and Indonesia.
The overall import value of hemp fibre and hemp textile products in the first five months was $207 million, up 2.41 percent than the same period last year.
Import quantity of hemp raw materials was 117,000 tons, down 4.57 percent than the same period last year; of these total raw materials, import quantity of flax was 74,300 tons, up 2.16 percent.
Around 66,100 tons were imported from EU countries like France, Belgium and others like Holland and Egypt. Import from these countries occupied 88.96 percent of the total import quantity of flax raw materials.
The average import unit price of flax raw materials was $1.73 per kg, up 22.07 percent than the same period last year.
The import quantity of jute raw materials was 42,800 tons, up 39.09 percent. However, its import unit price went down by 10.53 percent.
