Donghua University in Shanghai has recently developed a piece of PBO fiber with a diameter of one mm which can hold a weight of around 550 kilogram. The strength of this fiber can be compared with over 10 times of one mm diameter of a steel wire.
An Advanced Fiber and Polymer Materials International Science Meeting was held on October 17, where in, this high-technology PBO fiber attracted attention of many experts.
China produces over 20 million tons of chemical fiber each year, however, the proportion of high-technology fiber is less than 30 percent. In recent years, the Donghua University's Fiber Materials Improvement Lab is one of the research centre in China which was devoted to develop all kinds of high-technology fiber.
Donghua's research results have won Science and Technology Prize many times.
So far, only Holland and America have produced this kind of PBO fiber and now, China can boast of acquiring such high class technology.
