Spandex, also known as 'elastane', is renowned for its exceptional elasticity that can stretch upto 600% more than its normal size and also regain its original shape, once the tension is released. The fibre has initiated a new era in women's clothing accessories, especially in intimate wears.
Produced in four different ways, the output yarns are usually white in color with a dull shine. These fibres are used in making lingerie straps, bras, socks, and other medical products that require elasticity.
But it is only used in combination with other fibres, and is never used as 100% for any fabrics. It is used in making stretchable jeans, sports wear, compression garments such as support hose and automotive textiles like door panel fabrics.
Presently, this fibre is on the leading edge of fashion, and is used in both men's and women's wear. Due to its imminent virtues, spandex is rightly being honored as the 'Miracle Fibre'.
