Acrylic staple fibre consumption sinks in April-Sept 2005

Man-made fibre is considered 'poor cousin' of 'white gold' cotton as its consumption is on the lower side in India. Thus, consumption of MMF plunged across every key product group between April and September.
Since price benefit rose considerably after two consecutive successful cotton crops in India, cotton fibres have continued to grow market share in every key product group.
Consumption of acrylic staple fiber fell 23.7 percent between the same time period to 48,250 tons.
Production during in the same period, however dropped 6.1 percent to 60,610 tons. Ending stocks are up 80.9 percent from year-before levels at 17,960 tons.
