The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) signed an agreement with Terra Verde Ecofarm Inc. (TVEI) early this month to forge a partnership to produce bamboo textiles through the institute’s bamboo fibre extraction technology. The initiative will benefit community farmers in Maragondon, Cavite, where the integrated eco-farm is located.

The project is funded under DOST-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (PCAARRD) grants-in-aid programme called ‘Field Verification of Bamboo Textile Material Production and Treatment Technology’, according to a newspaper report.

A bamboo fibre extraction facility will be established in TVEI premises for extracting fibre from Kawayang Tinik (Bambusa blumeana) poles.

The DOST chief noted that Terra Verde Ecofarm, Inc focuses on natural farming technology, Integrated Diversified Organic Farming System (IDOFS), and integrated agri-tourism duly accredited by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Bamboo production Training Center.
