Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister of State for Commerce opined that Indian leather industry should concentrate on the volume and relax the value game.

He said that countries like China and Vietnam focus on quantity of exports while India focuses on value.

Indian products were priced at $10-12 while those from China and Vietnam were pegged between $4-6.

Ramesh also noted that although 50 percent of the world demand is for women's shoes, most of the Indian footwear targeted men.
