Christy and Gary Contreras are the owners of Healthfoot in Hillcrest. Both are also registered nurses who say they fell in love with the shoes while working at a local hospital.

"I had a lot of foot problems just from working on the hard hospital floors and I was one of the biggest skeptics myself but they work so," noted Contreras.

Z-Coils cost between $180 and $210 and come in a variety of styles for both men and women.

The springs also come in several sizes, depending on the weight of the wearer.

Karolyn says that while she was skeptical at first, she would never go back to wearing traditional shoes. "I pretty much slip into these when I get out of bed and slip them off when I get into bed," Webster said.

Contreras says the springs last one to two years before needing to be replaced. But you can buy a new set of coils without having to buy a new pair of shoes.

Z-CoiL has evolved from Al Gallegos' quest to end his own pain to his quest to end the pain of countless people who are suffering daily from foot, leg, and back pain.
