Statistics reveal that in the first quarter of 2006, Vietnam exported 2.52 million pairs of sandals and generated around $17.10 million, representing an year–on–year increase of 43.99 and 144.82 percent, respectively.

This product displayed the highest growth rate among all the other footwear categories in the period.

During January–March, there was a sharp rise in volume and value of exports to Netherlands, France, Belgium and Spain.

Meanwhile, slight decline was witnessed in exports to Antilles, the US and Japan.

A recent market survey shows that customers at Netherlands, Turkey, Malaysia and Hong Kong prefer leather sandal more than leatherette ones from Vietnam.

Country's current export price of leatherette and canvas sandal is between $4-6 per pair.
