Germany emerged as the top market for Vietnamese sandals importing $16.18 million worth, by the end of first quarter of 2006 and accounted for 22 percent of $75.05 million of total sandal exports turnover of the country.
Considering the growing demand for sandals, Germany has attracted many major enterprises, including 9 foreign invested enterprises and 56 Vietnamese ones.
Germany is followed by England and the US markets, with revenue of $13.9 million and $9.07 million, respectively.
According to General Customs, in April 2006, Vietnam's sandal exports turnover achieved nearly $20 million, representing year-on-year growth of 80 percent.
During the January-April period, around 95 percent year-on-year increase was recorded, with exports worth over $95 million.
