Footwear material imports surge in April 2006

In April 2006, Vietnam footwear industry imported synthetic leather worth US $14.7 million, representing year–on–year rise of 29.2 percent, Vietnamese Ministry of Trade (MOT) said.

These imported products chiefly cater to the growing demand of footwear industry to manufacture leatherette shoes.

Imports turnover of ribbon and shoes making – fabric also witnessed sharp increase in April, representing on-year-year surge of 210 percent and 37.3 percent, respectively.

According to Vietnamese General Customs Office, total footwear making – materials imports revenue of the country in April this year reached $141 million, up 23.7 percent over same period 2005.
