Hike of 6.41 percent in the price of plastic shoes, shrunk the demand for them in the US during January-March 2006 period.

The US imported plastic shoes worth $106.98 million in the first quarter of 2006, representing an year-on-year drop of seven percent.

However, among all exporting nations, only Vietnam and Brazil sustained sharp growth rate during this period.

Each pair, exported from Vietnam, is now priced at around $5.05.

Malaysia and Hong Kong have recorded the highest price hike in these products.
