A nonprofit group known as Shoes for Austin distributed more than 50 pairs of Nikes and New Balances in Montopolis among children.
The group has dispersed more than 40,000 pairs of new tennis shoes to children and adults since it began in 2000.
It raises money through grants and entails recipients to complete life skills programs, such as learning to read, completing homework, picking up trash in the community or completing substance abuse treatment.
The kids are directed to do something that will make them more productive and then are aptly rewarded to encourage and set them on the right path.
