Statistics of MOT revealed that in June 2006 Vietnam earned significant revenue from the exports of 5.93 million pairs of knitting–capped and knit shoes, generating US $51.48 million, with year–on–year rise of 10.29 percent and 28.65 percent, respectively.

For the first half this year, the products were shipped to 102 countries and territories in the world, gaining revenue of $263.03 million from 32.14 million pairs, representing a growth of 37.8 percent in volume and 52.8 percent in value compared with same period last year.

Ever since the implementation of EU anti-dumping lawsuit, Vietnamese footwear enterprises have been putting in extra efforts, revamping their production facilities to meet and tackle the cropped challenges.

Companies are exploring different destinations for leather and several categories of shoes other than the EU nations.

From January to June 2006, knitting–capped shoes exports turnover to the EU reached 16.52 million pairs, worth $129.75 million, posting year–on–year surge of 11.29 percent and 29.69 percent, respectively.

Among the EU countries, strong growth was recorded at Belgium, Poland and Hungary.

Besides, exports to markets including US, Canada, Japan, Korea and Russia also witnessed sharp growth.
