Footwear exports to Australia earn $23.3mn

Footwear exports turnover to Australia witnessed strong growth in the recent months and is expected to continue its climb in the coming times.

In August 2006, exports of these products to this market pooled in US $3.9 million, 30 percent rise from same period in 2005, raising total turnover during the first eight months of this year to $23.3 million.

Compared with correspondent period last year, January–August period the figures presented a year–on–year surge of 26.26 percent.

Commercial and industrial experts forecast that the goods exports turnover of whole 2006 would reach roundly $38 to $40 million, registering the highest value in export history.

Among all the goods, knitting–capped shoes and leather capped–shoes enjoyed major demand in Australian markets, especially tanned leather–capped sports shoes.

Vietnam's footwear exporting to Australia has been enjoying convenience in the current years because exporting tax on these goods in Australia has been reduced to 12.5 percent from 17.5 percent since January 2005 and to be down to 7.5 percent since January 2007, experts explained.

On the other hand, Vietnam and Australia have been accelerating implementation of agreements and commitment in opening market as well as trade liberalization.

However, there are many obstacles in exporting the goods to Australia like the long distance and strict regulation on quality market.
