Mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, Aeropostale Inc announced that total net sales for the five-week period ended December 31, 2005 increased 32.7 percent to $236.8 million, compared to $178.5 million for the five-week period ended January 1, 2005.
The company's comparable store sales increased 11.4 percent for the month, versus a comparable store sales increase of 0.5 percent in the year ago period.
Year-to-date, total net sales increased 23.7 percent to $1.140 billion, compared to $921.6 million in the year-ago period.
Year to date, comparable store sales increased 3.0 percent, compared to an increase of 9.0 percent in the year-ago period.
Julian R. Geiger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said, 'They are very pleased with their December performance, which reflects the continuation of the strong sales momentum they built during the Black Friday weekend.
The strength of their holiday merchandise assortment and their creative sales promotions enabled us to exceed both their sales and gross margin plans significantly.
As a result of their performance, they ended the month with inventory levels, on a per square foot basis, comparable to last year.
They believe they are well positioned for the transition into the spring selling season and they are excited about executing on their merchandise initiatives during fiscal 2006.'
The company also updated its earnings guidance for the fourth quarter.
