United Retail December comp sales up 16%

Large-size women's apparel and accessories seller United Retail Group Inc announced that net sales increased 14 percent to $56.6 million during December 2005 from $49.8 million during December 2004.

Comparable store sales increased 16 percent for the month on top of a 6 percent increase in December 2004.

For the fiscal quarter to date, net sales increased 10 percent to $91.7 million from $83.6 million in the same period last year.

Comparable store sales increased 11 percent for the fiscal quarter to date on top of an 8 percent increase in the prior year period.

For the fiscal year to date, net sales increased 10 percent to $411.0 million from $375.0 million in the same period last year.

Comparable store sales increased 11 percent for the fiscal year to date on top of a 2 percent increase in the prior year period.

Comparable store sales data does not include online ("Shop @ Home") sales.

Shop @ Home sales increased 162 percent for the month of December, 155 percent for the fiscal quarter to date and 123 percent for the fiscal year to date.

Raphael Benaroya, the Company's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, commented: "He is pleased with the outcome of the holiday season and, more so, with the sustained strength in their results.

Positive momentum in transactions per average store on a year-over-year basis continued to drive sales increases across a broad range of product."
