Topshop and Topman, the iconic British fast-fashion apparel chains, are setting their foot in the retail world of South Africa. The brands will primarily rollout through stand-alone stores in the important retailing centres of the country.

The first Topshop and Topman store is scheduled to be launched through a 950m² flagship outlet in Sandton City by November end, this year. It will also open a number of shop-in-shops within the main Edgars stores.

The shop-in-shops concept will reduce the retailer’s risk of entering new markets, while helping the brands to gain some local market knowledge, which will further enable them to expand.

The Arcadia Group-owned fashion chains - Topshop and Topman - operate through more than 750 stores worldwide.

For the past few years many global apparel brands like Gap, Mango and Zara have entered the markets of South Africa. As a result of the proliferation of leading apparel brands, the South African readymade garment sector is expecting higher competition and lower margins.
