Chico's January sales improve 34.2% over last year

Women's specialty retailer Chico's FAS Inc reported January sales results for the four-week period ended January 28, 2006, increased 34.2 percent to $91.7 million from $68.3 million reported for the prior year's four-week period ended January 29, 2005.

Comparable store sales for the Company-owned stores increased 14.6 percent for the four-week period ended January 28, 2006, compared to the same four-week period last year.

Total sales for the fourth quarter ended January 28, 2006 increased 31.6 percent to $376 million from $286 million for the same period a year ago.

Comparable store sales for the Company-owned stores increased 14.6 percent for the thirteen-week period compared to the same thirteen-week period last year.

For the fifty-two weeks ended January 28, 2006, total sales increased 31.7 percent to $1.405 billion from $1.067 billion for the prior year's fifty-two week period ended January 29, 2005.

Comparable store sales for the Company- owned stores increased 14.3 percent for the fifty-two week period compared to the same fifty-two week period last year.

Company is a specialty retailer of private label, sophisticated, casual-to-dressy clothing, intimates, complementary accessories, and other non-clothing gift items.

The Company operates 780 women's specialty stores, including stores in 47 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico operating under the Chico's, White House |Black Market, Soma by Chico's and Fitigues names.

The Company owns 501 Chico's front-line stores, 31 Chico's outlet stores, 197 White House | Black Market front-line stores, 8 White House | Black Market outlet stores, 15 Soma by Chico's stores, 12 Fitigues front-line stores and 2 Fitigues outlet stores; franchisees own and operate 14 Chico's stores.
