Federated Department Stores Inc announced that, through the generosity of Macy's customers, its popular Thanks for Sharing gift rewards program will contribute $6 million to charity this year, a new record for this national campaign.
Thanks for Sharing has benefited communities nationwide with $13.5 million in the last three years.
The primary Thanks for Sharing beneficiary is The American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" campaign to promote heart health, with funds raised at every Macy's division donating to that cause as part of Macy's national Go Red sponsorship.
In addition, Macy's Northwest and Macy's East will contribute to Make a Wish Foundation; Macy's Central will benefit America's Second Harvest and YWCA.
Macy's Florida will support American Red Cross and Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation and Macy's West will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs, America's Second Harvest and United Way.
Federated's Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Terry J Lundgren said that They're thrilled that their customers have joined with them to create such an impact in their communities.
"Macy's has a legacy of giving back to its communities and the company's efforts are made even stronger with the support of their customers and associates.
Thanks for Sharing is an illustration of what they can accomplish for worthwhile causes by working together."
Thanks for Sharing debuted as a national Macy's initiative in 2003 - a distinctive effort from which customers benefit during the holiday season, and charities benefit throughout the year.
