Lojas Riachuelo reveals 2005 sales performance & estimates for 2006

Guararapes Confeccoes -- Lojas Riachuelo announced its sales performance in December 2005 (preliminary and non-audited) and sales estimates of Lojas Riachuelo for 2006.
Sales Estimates - 2006: Lojas Riachuelo estimates gross sales growth of 40 percent in 2006, 30 percent out of which will arise from the increase in sales per square meters.
December and 2005 Sales Performance: Gross sales in December of 2005 totaled R$ 388.3 million and net sales R$ 267.8 million, with 29.8 percent and 28.8 percent growth, respectively, regarding the same period of the previous year.
For the January-December period, gross sales peaked to R$ 1,895.0 million in 2005 and net sales reached R$ 1,304.1 million, a 36.5 percent and 35.4 percent growth, respectively, when compared to the previous year. In the fourth quarter, gross sales reached R$ 703.2 million and net sales amounted R$ 484.3 million, with increases of 30.6 percent and 29.8 percent, respectively.
Same-stores sales in nominal terms presented a 26.7 percent growth in December 2005. However, if all stores are considered, there will be a 29.8 percent growth. Concerning the number of stores, the only store opened in 2005 was the one in Midway Mall, with 5,400 m(2) and already is one of the three largest stores in sales.
Guararapes Confeccoes is the largest apparel manufacturing company in Brazil and controller of Riachuelo's retail chain, the second largest apparel department store in Brazil, with 77 stores in the country.
