"They are delighted to partner with Sharon A Smith, CEO of the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Pennsylvania, in this new program designed to benefit young women in the city of Philadelphia.
They plan to focus on providing role models to assist in establishing positive goals in these young women's lives, and at the same time, further the mission of Girl Scouting, which is to build 'girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.'"
Bern continued, "With the support of Charming Shoppes' executives and associates, who will drive the development and implementation of their program, they will work toward fostering self-esteem."
Robert Q Kreider, President, Devereux added, "In an era when women did not have equal rights and had very defined roles in society, Helena Devereux was a courageous trailblazer in the field of education, an innovator who changed society's perception of what women should be and what they could accomplish.
Helena's accomplishments helped women aspire to higher goals, just as the recipients of the Paradigm Award inspire women to reach their dreams and their potential."
"The Chamber thanks Dorrit Bern and Devereux for providing young girls with the chance to emulate great leaders like Bern," said Mark Schweiker, President & CEO, Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce.
"Mentors are valuable in helping to shape the paths of young people.
The Girl Scouts has built a well-deserved reputation as an organization that builds character in girls and the Chamber is confident that this mentoring program will be successful."
