Apparel retailer TJX achieves 9% up over $1.3bn in June sales

Discount retailer of apparel and home fashions TJX Companies Inc reported June 2005 sales results. Sales for the five-week period ended July 2, 2005, were $1.4 billion, and up 9% over $1.3 billion achieved during the five-week period ended July 3, 2004.

For the 22 weeks ended July 2, 2005, sales reached $6.2 billion, an 8% increase over last year's $5.8 billion. Consolidated comparable store sales for the five-week period ended July 2, 2005, increased 3% over last year.

For the 22-week, year-to-date period, consolidated comparable store sales increased 2% over last year.

Edmond J. English, President and Chief Executive Officer of The TJX Companies Inc commented, "Our consolidated comparable store sales increase of 3% in June was less than we had planned.

With sales for the first two months of the quarter below our expectations, and a slightly more conservative sales outlook for July, we now anticipate second quarter earnings per share to be in the range of $.25 - $.26."

US based leading off-price fashion retailer The TJX Companies Inc operates 776 T.J. Maxx, 700 Marshalls, 230 HomeGoods, and 143 A.J. Wright stores, as well as 34 Bob's Stores, in the United States. The Company also operates two e-commerce sites, www.tjmaxx.com and www.homegoods.com. In Canada, the Company operates 167 Winners and 47 HomeSense stores, and in Europe, 181 T.K. Maxx stores.
