Aeropostale Inc, a mall-based specialty retailer of casual and active apparel for young women and men, announced that total net sales for the four-week period ended June 2, 2007 increased 19.3% to $88.1 million, from $73.9 million for the four-week period ended May 27, 2006. Same store sales for the month increased 1.9%, compared to the corresponding four-week period ended June 3, 2006.
Year-to-date, total net sales increased 13.7% to $363.9 million, from $320.2 million in the year-ago period. Year-to-date, same store sales increased 2.4%, compared to the corresponding period ended June 3, 2006.
Julian R. Geiger, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer said, "During the month we controlled our promotional cadence and level of inventory, resulting in gross margin increases over last year. We continue to execute at a high-level during this transitional selling period and we believe we are well positioned to maximize sales and margin opportunities during the upcoming back to school selling season."
The company believes that the disclosure of sales on a pro-forma basis due to the 53rd week in fiscal 2006, which is a non-GAAP financial measure, provides investors useful information to help them better understand the company's expected results.
