'Back to School' selling grows Wet Seal's Sept sales

Trendy young women's apparel retailer The Wet Seal Inc reported net sales for the five-week period ended October 1, 2005 of $47.9 million, compared with net sales of $41.4 million for the same period last year, an increase of 15.8 percent.
Comparable store sales increased 44.9 percent for the five-week period ended October 1, 2005, compared with a decline of 8.0 percent for the same period a year ago.
Net sales for the 35-week period ended October 1, 2005 were $323.5 million, compared with net sales of $286.5 million for the same period last year, a 12.9 percent increase. Comparable store sales increased 44.6 percent for the 35-week period ended October 1, 2005, compared with a decline of 13.3 percent for the same period a year ago.
Joel Waller, Chief Executive Officer of The Wet Seal Inc commented: "They are very pleased with September sales results, which reflect solid performance through the end of the 'Back to School' selling season. The continued success of their new merchandising strategy in the Wet Seal business led to their ninth consecutive month of comparable store sales growth."
During the five-week period ended October 1, 2005, the Company opened two Wet Seal stores and one Arden B. store, and had no store closures. At October 1, 2005, the Company operated 307 Wet Seal stores and 92 Arden B. stores.
