Readymade clothing factory destroyed in fire

Fire at the Al Jamal Factory for All-Ready Clothing in the Hussein bin Abdullah II Industrial Qualified Zone in Karak, 130 miles (216 kilometers) south of the Jordanian capital, Amman, early Saturday, destroyed the factory causing millions of dollars in damage.

It took 33 fire tenders working from morning to put off the blaze by noon. Six workers reportedly suffered from inhaling smoke while one who was seriously injured, and had to remain in the hospital for further treatment.

A 11,000 square meters (12,029 square yards) of the factory's storerooms storing ready made garment to be ready to be shipped to United States, Britain, Israel and Arab countries were razed by the fire.

Acording to initital estimates the factory director Mahmoun Gasous placed the losses between 4 to 5 million Jordanian dinars (US$5.6-US$7 million)

The plant is located in one of the seven zones that house joint ventures with Israel which are permitted to export duty free products to the United States, under a Jordan-US Free Trade Agreement.
