The Company also needed to temporarily shut as many as 51 locations in late October because of Hurricane Wilma. As of October 31, 2005, 16 locations remained closed due to the three hurricanes. The significant increase in the Company's total retail location count compared to a year ago resulted predominantly from the expansion of the Company's proprietary Two Hearts Maternity collection during late March 2005.
Rebecca Matthias, President and Chief Operating Officer of Mothers Work, noted that they are pleased and encouraged by the continued improvement in their sales trend for October, as Fall product became an increasingly important driver of sales and they experienced more typical Fall weather compared to the unseasonably warm weather in September in many regions of the United States.
Based on their positive comp store sales results in September and October and their confidence in their Fall product lines, they are cautiously optimistic that they can expect a continuation of their improved sales trend in November and beyond.
Apparel stores operator Mothers Work is the world's largest designer and retailer of maternity apparel, using its custom TrendTrack merchandise analysis and planning system as well as its quick response replenishment process to "give the customer what she wants, when she wants it." It offers upscale maternity clothing.
